Casting Tuition and Fly Fishing School

Philip Maher has the highest Fly Fishing Federation and Association of Professional Angling Instructors qualifications and is able to provide expert tuition in casting and fly-tying. Being a Fly Fishers Federation master Philip has the highest level of qualification that can be achieved in fly-fishing. Whether it is single or a double-handed fly rod your skill level can be improved quickly so that you are competent in the water, can cover fish efficiently, and get maximum enjoyment from your fishing. Angling tuition is provided in basic casting all the way up to expert casts such as the double-handed spey.
We offer a lot of different packages for the visiting angler, which can include pick up from airport, arranging car hire and accommodation from a tent to a 5 star hotel depending on what is requested by the client. Tackle hire is also on offer and the rod included is either a Sage or an Orvis outfit. There are waders from size 5 to 14 and gortex rain jackets. Tackle hire prices can vary depending on your requirements. If you want to bring your own gear then there is no problem – there is a drying room facility on site to store them for you during your stay.
We also give fly tying exhibitions in the evenings and talks on entomology of the local river. This is normally carried out over a nice bottle of Irish Whiskey or tea should you prefer a clear head in the morning.

Casting Techniques
An angler must be adept at casting from both the left-hand and right-hand sides of the body in order to be able to cast efficiently under all conditions and to make sure that the fly is always upwind, so that it cannot cause injury. at FishHunt we have designed instruction sheets clearly illustrating and explaining how to perform the most useful casts a salmon angler needs to know, from the basic roll cast to the double spey and much more.
